At Atlantic City Electric, we maintain a close partnership with local fire departments and other first responders, who work alongside our employees during storms and other emergencies. As part of our ongoing support for the local emergency management community, we annually present our Merit of Excellence Award for Commitment to Public Safety to honor those who have made a significant contribution to emergency preparedness and safety in southern New Jersey.
This year, the award, presented during the New Jersey Emergency Preparedness Conference, was given to Mike Brandenberger, recognizing his dedication to serving residents of Atlantic and Cape May counties.
Recently retired, Mike began his career in the public safety sector at the age of 18 as a volunteer firefighter with the Galloway Township Fire Department. During his career, Mike held multiple positions with various organizations including the Wildwood Crest Fire Department, Galloway Township Rescue Squad, the Township of Hamilton Police Department, and the Township of Hamilton Office of Emergency Management.
“We are thrilled to honor Mike with this award to recognize his many years of service working alongside first responders and serving the residents of our communities, and for his dedication to fire service and emergency management,” said Susan Coan, Atlantic City Electric region vice president.
In addition to our ongoing support for the N.J. Emergency Preparedness Conference and efforts to recognize those who go above and beyond in serving the residents and visitors of our region, we also work through our Emergency Services Partnership Program to coordinate trainings to educate first responders about fire and electrical safety, share best practices, and sponsor charitable giving and volunteer activities with area emergency response teams, such as our annual smoke alarm donations.
