Warrior Friendly Business Award Honors Efforts to Support Service Members and Veterans

At Delmarva Power, we firmly believe in hiring the women and men who have served or continue to serve our country. Veterans and service members exemplify the leadership, teamwork, integrity, and commitment to excellence we value. That is why we take extra steps to hire and prepare them for success.

Recognizing these efforts, we were honored with this year’s Warrior Friendly Business Award at the Delaware Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve’s (ESGR) 2018 Annual Employer Recognition Banquet. The award acknowledges Delmarva Power’s focused approach to hiring, preparing, and advocating for veterans, service members, and their families.

By working with partner organizations, like Hiring our Heroes, ESGR, and Recruit Military, and sending recruiters directly to military bases and military job fairs, our recruiting teams reach a broad array of veteran and service member candidates who may be interested in careers with us.

When training and developing employees with military experience, we take extra steps to provide helpful resources, such as hosting workshops for supervisors on working with service members and veterans and offering an employee resource group, Exelon Militaries Actively Connected, that promotes a positive workplace environment for those with prior military service.

We also enthusiastically promote the benefits of hiring those with military experience to other employers across the state. Our employees volunteer for ESGR, participate in military-related job fairs and events, and actively recruit and train other volunteers to support ESGR’s mission.

Together with Exelon, which was recently recognized by DiversityInc. as a Top 5 Company for Veterans, we employ more than 60 service members and veterans within the Delmarva Power service area. These employees commonly begin their careers as equipment operators, engineers, IT analysts, distribution mechanic apprentices, or first line supervisors, and play an important part in our mission to deliver safe, reliable service to our customers.

As part of our long-term commitment to workforce development, we are creating new resources and programs for our service members and veterans and continually looking for new ways to expand employment opportunities for them across the state.
