Pepco is a proud partner of the District of Columbia Public Schools Career Bridge Program, which provides the opportunity for DCPS high school seniors to participate in professional skill building and internship opportunities, so students ultimately secure a post-secondary plan. On Aug. 20, Pepco was excited to announce that two students successfully graduated from our training program.

On March 10, Pepco hosted a kickoff with Outward Bound to welcome the eight DCPS students identified to participate in the Pepco specific training.

Throughout the trainings, which were transitioned to virtual sessions due to COVID-19, students were exposed to various Pepco departments and career pathways including substations, transmission and distribution (underground and overhead lines), safety and tools training, and professional development workshops such as goal setting, resume review, and mock interviews. Post high school graduation, students also attended virtual CAST test prep with Pepco partner, the University of the District of Columbia. Students received a minimum of 20 hours/training per week

When courses wrapped up, Pepco hosted a virtual graduation and celebration ceremony with DCPS lead, Rachel Snyder, and participating Pepco employees. The two Pepco graduates will be moving towards a full-time, long-term internship role starting mid-September within the Electrical Operations and Substations departments. Once the graduates successfully pass the CAST test and follow hiring requirements, they will continue their employment with Pepco as full-time employees.
