Working Together to ‘Do More’

Every day in the D.C. area, there are families struggling to feed their children. According to the United Way of the National Capital Area, 1 in 5 children deal with food insecurity and don’t have reliable access to affordable, nutritious food. Many of these families depend on local nonprofits, and in turn those nonprofits rely on support from our community.

To provide that support, Pepco partnered with the United Way for Do More 24 – a day of volunteerism and fundraising for programs and services aiding those in need. This initiative unites community members with nonprofits and corporate partners from across the region for the D.C. area’s largest 24-hour online fundraiser, as well as a day of service across the region.

This year, we opened the Pepco Edison Place Gallery for the Do More 24 block party, where hundreds of volunteers – including 150 Pepco employees – packed 24,000 meals and filled a school bus with essential supplies for students. The meals and supplies went to families and schools across D.C., Maryland and Virginia.

“It’s this kind of connection with our community that is so important,” said Dave Velazquez, President and CEO of Pepco Holdings. “This is the kind of project that makes me so proud to lead Pepco.”

Pepco’s long-standing partnership with the United Way of the National Capital Area is just a part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing our community. We know that our responsibility to the community goes beyond keeping the lights on, and we’re committed to fulfilling our promise as good neighbors every day.
