At Pepco, we are committed to supporting community partners who provide essential services to people and families across the greater Washington D.C. area. Last week, we proudly joined with United Way of the National Capital Area to provide a $50,000 matching gift to their Emergency Assistance Fund that will support those impacted by the ongoing federal government shutdown.
This matching gift will help organizations like Capital Area Food Bank and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington provide essential food and housing support during the difficult times that many residents are currently experiencing.
“This is a great example of coming together to support the residents and customers that make our communities thrive,” said Dave Velazquez, president and CEO of Pepco Holdings. “In addition to our own programs, we work day-in and day-out with community and government partners to get funding into the hands of those customers who need it most.”
We are also taking important steps to expand awareness of the programs in place to help our customers stay energized through temporary or extended periods of financial hardship.
“Our commitment is to ensure all our customers have the ability to heat their home, and we will work with customers who may have difficulty paying their energy bill,” said Felecia Greer, Director and Customer Advocate, Pepco Holdings.
Available assistance includes:
- Payment arrangements to bring accounts up-to-date over a mutually agreeable time period.
- Budget Billing, which divides payments evenly over the course of a year to avoid seasonal peaks and make it easier for customers to budget and pay their bill each month.
- Extended bill due date without a late charge for customers whose main source of household income is from government or other low-income entitlement programs.

Over the last 12 months, we helped secure over 49,000 energy assistance payments for customers, totaling more than $24 million dollars. We will continue working closely with our customers and nonprofit partners during and after the federal government shutdown to provide information and access to resources to help every customer manage their energy needs.
